Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was targeted by burglars on Wednesday while he was in Italy representing his club in a Champions League match against Como.
Sources indicate that Fernandes’ family were not present at his Cheshire residence at the time of the break-in, and the intruders reportedly fled the scene within five minutes of the police arriving.
Manchester United has confirmed that the club is actively supporting the 32-year-old midfielder following the unsettling incident.
BBC Sport has reached out to Cheshire Police for official comment regarding the investigation.
This latest incident marks a worrying trend, as Fernandes becomes the latest high-profile footballer to have his family home targeted while he was playing for his team.
The pattern of similar break-ins in the region previously affected Manchester City’s Ruben Dias and his former partner Maya Jama, whose home was burgled under comparable circumstances.
Dias was playing in City’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray in January when his property was targeted.
Other football stars who have fallen victim to similar burglaries in the Cheshire area include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.
Fernandes, who has played for Manchester United since his transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, recently experienced a tough match as his team suffered a 4-1 defeat against Como.
Following the match, Fernandes openly criticized manager Michael Carrick’s tactical approach, though the club has confirmed he will face no disciplinary action and will retain his captaincy.
