Manchester United is reportedly considering Eddie Howe as its leading candidate to replace the underperforming Michael Carrick.
Widely respected across English football, Howe became available after departing Newcastle United in the summer, making him a logical option for Manchester United following a poor start to the campaign.
Howe was previously on United’s radar during Dan Ashworth’s tenure at Old Trafford, having worked alongside the English coach at St James’ Park.
At the time, however, club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe passed over Howe in favour of Ruben Amorim, according to The Athletic.
Could Manchester United Return for Eddie Howe?

Howe represents an appealing option for United, though Michael Carrick is still expected to remain in charge for the time being.
The Athletic reports that the 45-year-old is still scheduled to lead Manchester United into this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Bournemouth, with a press conference set for later today.
However, Carrick’s tenure may be nearing its end, as another disappointing result against Bournemouth could prove to be the final straw.
Howe’s availability further weakens Carrick’s position, offering little reason to retain an inexperienced manager when proven alternatives are ready to step in.
United may wish it had acted sooner, but supporters are unlikely to complain if the club corrects that mistake now and steers the team back in the right direction.
