Erin Foster, the creator of “Nobody Wants This,” has responded to co-star Adam Brody’s public support for Palestine, stating, “I disagree with him, and that’s OK.”
During an appearance on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast with host Amanda Hirsch, Foster addressed comments Brody made in a recent GQ interview, where he explicitly expressed his desire for a “free Palestine.” Brody stars alongside Kristen Bell in the series, which centers on the romance between a rabbi and a non-Jewish woman.
“You know, it’s complicated,” Foster remarked. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. And, you know, while I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s OK.”
Brody, who was raised in a Jewish family but previously noted to Variety that he is not religious, faced criticism from some viewers following his statements. Foster, who drew inspiration for the series from her own conversion to Judaism, expressed empathy for the show’s audience, stating she wants Jewish fans to know their feelings are seen and understood.
“The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show,” Foster explained. “It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”
Despite their differences, Foster emphasized that “everyone is entitled to a different opinion,” while remaining focused on the original intent of her creation.
In his GQ feature, Brody mentioned that while he discusses the Israel-Gaza conflict frequently in private, it rarely arises in professional settings.
“I just answer the questions I’m asked,” Brody said. “I’m not wearing a pin, so I’m not inviting a certain question… but I’ve never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway.”
Brody further clarified his position, stating, “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.”
Season 3 of “Nobody Wants This” is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
