A deadly shooting in the Parisian suburb of Trappes has been condemned as a “racist terrorist attack” by the French presidency after a gunman opened fire from his vehicle, killing one person and wounding five others, including a 12-year-old girl who was shot multiple times.
French President Emmanuel Macron visited the working-class town of Trappes, located southwest of Paris, to assess the situation following the violent incident. Authorities suspect the gunman specifically targeted people of foreign origin during the rampage.
The Élysée Palace confirmed the classification of the attack as both racist and terrorist in nature, prompting swift condemnation from the highest levels of the French government.
Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh stated that the suspect was firing at random with the explicit desire to cause a bloodbath as he drove through Trappes and the neighboring commune of La Verrière.
