The Weekend Update segment on “Saturday Night Live U.K.” continued its willingness to tackle contentious topics this weekend, as co-host Paddy Young directly addressed allegations that emerged this week concerning Meghan Markle’s father.
“In royal news, it has been a big 24 hours for Meghan Markle, whose father has been accused of being an alleged pedophile, in another pathetic attempt to win over the British public,” Young said.
“In 2025, Thomas Markle moved to the Philippines in a sure sign of his innocence. If the allegations about Meghan Markle’s father are true and he is a pedophile, there is a genuine chance Meghan could be considered royal,” he said.
That wasn’t the only provocative subject that came up during the latest Weekend Update. Young’s fellow host, Ania Magliano, also raised the recently announced “Glee” reboot, taking a shot at the show itself.
“This week, it was announced that the musical comedy ‘Glee’ will be rebooted on Disney+,” Magliano said. “The original series was famously marked by repeated tragedies, including multiple cast deaths, and endured challenges related to writing, production, and broadcast.”
Young also threw his hat in for the James Bond auditions, which are said to be taking place this weekend, telling the audience: “I know this is late, but I’d like to put myself forward.” He immediately (purposely) fluffed it, blurting out: “The James Bond — bollocks.”
And he also threw in a shot at the BBC, saying: “In big media news, Radio Four Extra has announced it will close in what is sure to be devastating news for its listener.”
