Hundreds of individuals gathered outside the London Palladium to attempt a view of the football’s premier awards ceremony on the red carpet. A security perimeter comprising metal fencing and barricades was erected to limit access to those with tickets.
However, members of the BBC Sport team observed these barriers being scaled, torn down, and several attendees being forcibly removed by security after bypassing the perimeter.
The atmosphere at times became volatile, with social media footage capturing fans clashing with both security and police personnel.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson briefed BBC Sport that officers were deployed following concerns regarding crowd conduct and potential breach of the peace.
“A Section 35 dispersal order was authorised at 19:49 GMT and was in effect until 04:00 on Tuesday, 27 October,” a statement read.
“Officers cleared the crowd, who began hurling scaffolding clips and bricks at the police. No officers were injured.”
Later in the evening, personnel dealt with a smaller group of individuals who had climbed a neighbouring building.
The report further noted that two arrests were made—one for breaching the dispersal order and another for affray and violent disorder.
