The Mumbai Indians have confirmed the departure of three assistant coaches from their men’s team setup ahead of the IPL 2027 season, the franchise announced on Thursday (October 29).
Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey, and Carl Hopkinson will be moving on from their respective roles, as the five-time IPL champions undergo a coaching restructure.
The franchise expressed its gratitude to the departing coaches for their contributions, commitment, and service, marking a significant shift in MI’s coaching landscape.
Lasith Malinga’s Historic Association With MI
Malinga remains one of the most iconic figures in Mumbai Indians’ history. The former Sri Lankan fast bowler was instrumental in shaping the franchise’s bowling attack, contributing to four IPL titles and the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 triumph.
Following his playing career, Malinga rejoined MI as a bowling mentor and later as a coach. His vast experience, leadership, and impact on successive generations of bowlers solidified his status as a cornerstone of the MI setup.
Paras Mhambrey, Hopkinson Leave Mumbai Indians
Mhambrey has had a long-standing association with Mumbai Indians, initially serving from 2010 to 2017 before returning in 2024. His expertise in bowling coaching played a key role in the development of MI’s bowling resources over multiple seasons.
Hopkinson joined MI ahead of the 2025 season, bringing valuable international experience from his tenure with the England men’s team. He focused on elevating the team’s fielding standards, earning appreciation for his professionalism and tactical acumen.
Kieron Pollard to Lead MI Coaching Setup
Kieron Pollard will steer the coaching setup as head coach for the IPL 2027 season. A key architect of MI’s success, Pollard won multiple IPL titles during his playing career with the franchise. The organization is expected to bring in a fresh batch of assistant coaches in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
