The $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) features a strong field of eight runners after Scottish Lassie was withdrawn in the final minutes. They will race 1 1/8 miles at Keeneland’s main track.
Breeders’ Cup Distaff Top Challengers to Nitrogen
Lightly raced Fully Subscribed (8‑5), by Tiz the Law, is a consistently solid jockey‑horse pairing with a career best of three finishes and nine wins. Her recent form is exemplary, including a three‑race win skein that added the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) and Spinster Stakes (G1) to her record.
Trainer Chad Brown is highly confident in her chances and is seeking a rematch with Nitrogen, who defeated Fully Subscribed earlier this year.
“She threw one race in there this year that was subpar, that 12‑length loss to Nitrogen, where she just wasn’t herself in the stretch there,” Brown said. “I’m not saying she should have won there, but she shouldn’t have been beaten 11 lengths to her. I have no excuse for it, but I will say that there is not that much difference between these two fillies.”
“She came back and trained super and has run some outstanding races, back‑to‑back. I have her right where I want her right now.”
Splendora (9‑2), last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) winner, will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione and is capable of either setting the pace or sitting just behind it. The Audible filly, trained by Bob Baffert, recorded five of six starts last year including two Grade 1 placings, though she has not yet conquered the 9‑furlong distance.
Her 5¼‑length gate‑to‑wire win in the Locust Grove Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs was impressive, and the performance figures she earned from the effort are respectable, but she will need to prove she is a winner in this high‑caliber division.
Longshot Odds to Consider in Breeders’ Cup Distaff
Last year’s top 2‑year‑old filly Super Corredora (15‑1) has struggled this season but rebounded by taking the Zenyatta Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. Trained by John Sadler and ridden by Joel Rosario, she is a pacesetter who hopes to use her speed to gain early position after a solid break.
Regaled (20‑1), by Mohaymen, is a confirmed closer who previously won the Delaware Handicap (G3) last out. As a trusted closer she can descend on hot pace, a strategy that mirrors her effective run in last year’s Distaff where she finished third on a less ideal track.
Three‑year‑old Measure (20‑1) is another closer reliant on a hot pace. Trained by Mark Casse, she has earned Grade 1 placings against three‑year‑old fillies but has yet to win a stakes race. Her overall competition level and speed figures place her as a tough bet, though she remains a viable exotic candidate. Manny Franco is saddled.
Although Immersive (30‑1), a Breeders’ Cup winner and champion, now runs at long odds, the race offers a chance for a surprise. The Nyquist filly, trained by Brad Cox, returned from a modest 2025 campaign with wins and close finishes, including the Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. Junior Alvarado will ride her; she needs a strong performance to reverse her disappointing placement in the Spinster.
“It was OK,” said Cox. “The horse did come out in good order and we kept her at Keeneland. Her last two runs have been acceptable; she needs to move forward. We’ll need some racing luck and perhaps some others to have as much luck for us.”
