PHILADELPHIA — Sixers forward Jaylen Brown will miss Friday’s NBA Cup matchup against the New York Knicks after being diagnosed with a left patella injury, the team announced.
Brown had been listed as questionable for the game, following knee soreness that appeared after Wednesday’s victory over the Pacers. Philadelphia later downgraded his status to doubtful.
Coach Nick Nurse confirmed that forward Dean Wade will start in Brown’s place. When asked about the injury’s severity, Nurse gave little clarity.
“We want him out there, right? So I just know he can’t play tonight,” Nurse said. “He’s out tonight, that’s what I know.”
This season, Brown has been one of the 76ers’ top perimeter defenders and averages 20.6 points per game.
