Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic had a heated exchange with a camera operator during his third-round match against 19-year-old João Fonseca at Roland-Garros on Friday.
“Can you come more in my face? For God’s sake make some space,” Djokovic said from near his bench after taking the first two sets at Court Philippe-Chatrier.
As temperatures in Paris reached the low-to-mid 90s, a ball boy retrieved ice packs for Djokovic during the heat wave affecting the tournament.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion ultimately fell to Fonseca, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5, in a thrilling five-set match spanning nearly five hours.
The Brazilian closed the decisive fifth set with three consecutive aces.
Djokovic also vomited on the clay court at the start of the fifth set.
The rivals embraced at the net, with Djokovic earning a standing ovation as he exited the court.
Fonseca thanked Djokovic and called him an idol following his historic victory.
The Brazilian became only the second man to defeat Djokovic after being down in sets, joining Jurgen Melzer who achieved the feat at Roland Garros in 2010.
Fonseca will face either Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul in the fourth round.
