Forty-eight-year-old van driver Wong Siu-po says life has become more difficult than ever. Soaring fuel prices are now costing him an additional HK$5,000 (US$640) per month—roughly one-third of his total income.
Supporting an 11-year-old daughter and an unemployed wife, Wong feels the financial pressure mounting.
“I need to work three hours longer each day to make up for the loss,” he said. “I will cut down on air conditioning to save costs.”
