Liverpool have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with Chelsea reportedly abandoning plans to rekindle their interest in the Senegal international.
Camara was on the verge of joining Chelsea on summer deadline day before Monaco halted negotiations at the eleventh hour, despite terms having been agreed. According to Football Insider, the London club has now shifted its focus entirely to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott for the January window, leaving Liverpool with a clearer run at the 20-year-old.
Chelsea Prioritise Scott Over Camara
Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke reports that Scott has leapfrogged Camara on Chelsea’s shortlist and represents the deal they are most keen to complete when the market reopens. This development strengthens Liverpool’s position; the Reds have maintained a strong interest in the Monaco midfielder and recently contacted his representatives to register their intent and monitor his situation.
While a January move is not guaranteed, Liverpool are now considered one of the best-placed Premier League clubs to secure his signature. Reports from CaughtOffside indicate both Camara and Scott feature prominently on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist, and Chelsea’s decision to prioritise the Bournemouth player effectively separates the two clubs’ transfer trajectories.
Monaco’s Stance Remains Primary Obstacle

The removal of Chelsea from the equation alters the landscape considerably. Liverpool were previously competing with a club that had already reached the brink of signing Camara; now they can pursue the midfielder without the immediate threat of a rival bid from Stamford Bridge.
Camara’s profile—youthful, athletic, press-resistant, and versatile enough to operate as a deep-lying playmaker or box-to-box option—aligns with the type of midfielder Liverpool are targeting. However, the principal hurdle remains Monaco themselves. The player is under contract until 2029 and remains a key starter, giving the Ligue 1 club significant leverage to resist a cut-price mid-season sale. Any agreement would likely require compromises from all three parties.
Nevertheless, eliminating a direct competitor with a proven recent intent to sign the player represents a tangible opportunity. If Liverpool identify Camara as a primary target for 2025, this window may present the optimal moment to act.
