Four individuals have been charged with attempted murder in South Africa following a brutal and torturous attack on a cattle farmer. The incident, described by officials as “senseless and barbaric,” has sparked widespread outrage in the nation.
Donovan Marx, 50, was ambushed, shot, stabbed, and tortured during a home invasion on his farm in Ventersdorp, a small town in the North West province. The attack occurred last Wednesday as Marx returned to his property.
According to police reports, a group of masked armed suspects first confronted a farm worker who was mowing the lawn, tying his hands and feet with cable ties after demanding to know Marx’s whereabouts. Upon Marx’s return, two of the assailants allegedly shot him in the upper body, dragged him inside the residence, bound him, and stabbed him.
The suspects then ransacked the home, stole three firearms from a safe, and fled the scene in Marx’s van. The farm worker eventually managed to free himself and contact the authorities. Marx was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Medical professionals were unable to save his ears, and he may require prosthetic replacements.
Five suspects were arrested over the weekend, with four appearing in court on Tuesday. The four defendants, aged between 26 and 56, face charges of attempted murder, robbery, assault, and illegal possession
