The San Francisco 49ers completed a major trade ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.
San Francisco acquired defensive lineman DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts in late October, yet the team may not be finished making moves.
Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, NFL insider Jordan Schultz outlined what to expect before the trade deadline and suggested the 49ers’ front office may still have a move in reserve.
“Last week, I mentioned San Francisco and Chicago as two teams likely to be active,” Schultz said. “Chicago landed Jeffrey Simmons in a blockbuster deal, and San Francisco acquired DeForest Buckner, so we anticipated that.”
“But I don’t believe either team is finished,” he continued. “The 49ers appear to be seeking a wide receiver and a pass rusher, and I wouldn’t rule out another transaction.”
“There is significant Khalil Mack speculation surrounding both clubs. The Jets have stated they are not trading their stars, including Garrett Wilson, though interest has surfaced around Breece Hall, so we’ll see how that develops.”
With Christian McCaffrey in the backfield, running back is not a priority for San Francisco, but wide receiver remains a pressing need.
“The biggest name generating league-wide interest is Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens,” Schultz said. “Pickens is playing under the franchise tag and has not been deployed in the same capacity as last season.”
Last season, Pickens earned his first Pro Bowl selection after recording 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. This year, he has totaled 39 catches for just over 500 yards and two touchdowns.
This comes as the Cowboys’ season continues to slip away.
Injuries have decimated San Francisco’s receiver corps. While some players are expected to return, their status remains uncertain. The Niners have already lost Christian Kirk and Ricky Pearsall for the season.
The 49ers have reached the Super Bowl in recent seasons but fell short of capturing the Lombardi Trophy. San Francisco may look to history as motivation to stay aggressive on the trade market through the Nov. 10 deadline.
