With control of the US Congress on the line, Tuesday’s election results will carry profound implications for the nation’s future.

Following a full day of voting, the first polling stations have closed in the highly consequential US midterm elections.
Control of both chambers of the US Congress is at stake, with all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats contested.
Democrats, campaigning on pledges to address the rising cost of living and resolve the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, are aiming to reclaim the House of Representatives. The party remains hopeful about retaking the Senate majority once all ballots are finalized.
The initial indicators of the election’s direction will emerge from Kentucky’s highly competitive sixth congressional district, where polling concluded at 6:00 PM Eastern Time (23:00 GMT).
Within this conservative district, which encompasses Lexington, the state’s second-largest city, Democrats have made a significant investment in the campaign of US Navy veteran Zach Dembo. He is running against a Trump-backed physician and former state legislator, Ralph Alvarado.
A Republican victory in this district could serve as an early indicator of the party’s potential performance in races nationwide.
Results from across the nation will continue to trickle in throughout Tuesday evening. However, some outcomes may remain uncertain until Wednesday or later, as states conclude their voting and officials begin releasing official counts.
