Italian chef Davide Tamburella was dismissed from a Brisbane restaurant in May after management raised concerns over a series of customer complaints regarding his professional conduct.
The grievances included the chef’s refusal to serve ham and pineapple pizza to guests at a private event. This incident marked the third time in four years that Tamburella had flatly refused to put pineapple on a pizza.
Following the dismissal, the chef maintained that putting pineapple on pizza was fundamentally offensive to his Italian culinary heritage. Australia correspondent Katy Watson reports on the details leading up to the chef’s termination.
