The Snoop Dogg biopic, announced in 2022, is billed as the definitive film about the rapper and entertainment mogul.
Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg in the project, which also features Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Lauren London as Snoop’s late mother Beverly Tate, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Snoop’s wife Shante Broadus, Olly Sholotan as Kurupt, Corey Champagne as Nate Dogg, and Jonica Booth as The Lady Of Rage.

It has now been confirmed that Cynthia Erivo will portray Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother and a prominent Black Panther activist, in the film. Erivo has not yet commented on the casting news.
Snoop is scheduled for theatrical release on August 6 next summer, directed by Craig Brewer. The screenplay was written by Joe Robert Cole, co‑writer of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Snoop Dogg serves as a producer alongside Brian Grazer, known for Eminem’s 8 Mile, and the film will incorporate music from across his career.
Shakur and Snoop Dogg were close early in their careers, collaborating on the track “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” Their friendship later strained amid the East Coast–West Coast rap rivalry, though Snoop visited Shakur during his final hospital days.
Erivo’s next project is a film adaptation of the acclaimed one‑woman play Prima Facie. She hosted the final episode of Saturday Night Live UK in 2026, delivering sketches that poked fun at Charli XCX, fairy tales, and her own blockbuster success with Wicked.
