China has committed to enhancing AI accuracy, reliability, and transparency by introducing a new national evaluation framework, as policymakers aim to set common standards for a rapidly advancing technology.
The central government has issued new guidelines stating that Beijing will establish a unified benchmark for AI, enabling models, computational resources, and data quality to be measured and compared against a national standard.

“We aim to foster reliable, safe, and trustworthy AI measurement standards, ensuring that AI performance is measurable, comparable, and traceable,” the SAMR stated.
The plan also targets bridging the ‘last mile’ between laboratory breakthroughs and industrial deployment, tackling issues such as measurement inaccuracies and limited data availability.
