England ‘disappointment’ fuels Dewsbury-Hall’s Everton heroics

The stretch until the March international break already feels endless for Dewsbury-Hall.

The Everton midfielder is well accustomed to a circuitous path to success, having endured numerous setbacks and detours across his career.

He did not make his Premier League debut for his boyhood club Leicester City until he was 22, having spent prior seasons gaining valuable experience on loan in the English Football League with Luton Town and Blackpool.

When his chance to break into Leicester’s first team finally arrived, it coincided with a turbulent season that ended in Premier League relegation the following year.

After starring in Leicester’s Championship‑winning campaign under Enzo Maresca, the midfielder soon joined Stamford Bridge in a £30 million move.

His stint at Chelsea was hampered by limited first‑team appearances, as he spent most of his time in cup competitions with few Premier League minutes.

It was not until his transfer to Everton last summer, at 26, that he finally found the ideal environment to reignite his career and demonstrate the qualities that made him a once‑prominent attacking midfielder.

Since the beginning of last season, Dewsbury‑Hall has netted 11 Premier League goals and contributed seven assists for Everton.

“I’m really, really enjoying it,” said Dewsbury-Hall. “I’ve got a really good hybrid role in this team, where the gaffer is giving me the freedom to pop up all over the pitch.”

Tuchel said on Friday afternoon that Dewsbury-Hall had been “very close” to earning a place in his squad, having enjoyed “a very good season” with Everton so far.

“I’ve got the mentality,” added Dewsbury-Hall. “I’ll keep pushing and pushing and see what happens.”
