WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has offered the White House press secretary role to UFC president Dana White, a move that is unprecedented even by the president’s typically unconventional standards. The White House has not yet confirmed the development.
While at his Florida golf club, Trump posted on social media that he extended the offer to “the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior,” naming White as the Republican president’s chief spokesperson.
Trump’s post also requested that White bring several UFC fighters as “assistants,” stating, “We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
The White House did not respond Saturday to inquiries regarding the Truth Social announcement.
White, who was in London for a boxing event on Saturday, has not commented, and a UFC spokesperson did not immediately reply.
White shared an image of Trump’s post on Instagram, alongside a picture of himself standing behind the podium in the White House press briefing room with the caption “On to the next chapter.”
Trump’s statement comes amid a broader reshuffle within his administration. The president on Friday replaced longtime adviser Susie Wiles with aide Stephen Miller as chief of staff, following a week that saw a brief tenure of interim press secretary Katie Zacharia, who departed after five days. This transition also follows the Democratic Party’s historic gains in the recent midterm elections, which resulted in the GOP losing control of both chambers of Congress.
The position of press secretary has been vacant since Karoline Leavitt’s departure at the end of August, leaving Trump without a chief spokesperson.
Trump and White share a close personal relationship, having attended multiple UFC events together since the president’s return to the White House in January 2025. The two also co‑hosted a UFC‑themed celebration for America’s 250th anniversary and Trump’s 80th birthday on the South Lawn in June 2025, featuring an on‑site octagon under the “The Claw” arch.
“It was an amazing experience, this was a one‑of‑one,” White commented afterward.
White has also delivered remarks at the Republican National Conventions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
