In just seven days, Falkirk stunned defending champions Celtic and became the first side to defeat Hearts at Tynecastle in Scottish Premiership action in 19 months, posting a combined seven goals in the process.
The 5-2 victory in Edinburgh marked their fifth consecutive win, moving John McGlynn’s side into third place in the table.
Just a month prior, a late goal against Dundee had left Falkirk sitting 11th, just a point above the relegation zone.
“It’s about finding the right balance – not getting carried away, and certainly not playing things down,” McGlynn said in an interview with BBC Scotland.
“Winning five games on the bounce shows we have something special. We want this run to continue because we’re enjoying every moment.”
“But we’ve only played 13 games so far. There’s a long season ahead, so we need to keep our feet on the ground and enjoy seeing our team sit third in the league.”
The 64-year-old manager received widespread acclaim last season for guiding Falkirk back to the top flight, having overseen back-to-back promotions that saw the club finish sixth.
Liam Henderson, who netted a sublime fourth goal against Hearts, was part of the Bairns’ League One era, as were Brad Spencer and Ethan Ross.
Unused substitutes Finn Yeats and Ross MacIver have been integral to the journey alongside McGlynn, as has Leon McCann, though he missed the recent action through injury.
“We’ve built a strong team spirit and a togetherness, a willingness to work hard for our teammates,” Henderson said. “We’ve added a ruthless edge up front as well.”
“The manager is massive for us. His knowledge, his attention to detail – he’s so thorough with everything he does.”
“We’re breaking records and creating history this season. A lot of pundits and fans doubted we’d be the team we were last year, but we’re proving them wrong.”
There’s truth to that statement. While some veterans remain, the squad underwent a significant overhaul in the summer.
Calvin Miller joined Hearts, Dylan Tait captains Dundee United, and Barney Stewart – who scored 10 goals between January and May – was sold to West Bromwich Albion for a club-record fee.
Loan recruits Filip Lissah, Ben Broggio, Henry Cartwright, Kyrell Wilson, Ethan Williams, and Louie Marsh have all moved on.
