President Donald Trump has recently commented on musicians who have withdrawn from his Freedom 250 concert series, indicating that he might consider inviting a figure who attracts larger crowds than Elvis—namely, himself—to fill the vacated slots with a speech.
On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social, asserting that he draws larger audiences than Elvis at the height of his career. He claimed that many artists are experiencing performance anxiety, and suggested that the world’s top attraction—himself—who boasts unprecedented crowd sizes, deep patriotism, and is hailed by some as the greatest president in history—could replace the highly paid performers who have withdrawn, delivering a major speech to rally the nation as he has done throughout his presidency.
On Friday, Bret Michaels and The Commodores announced their departure from the concert series. Michaels explained on his website that what began as a celebration of the nation has become increasingly divisive, diverging from the purpose for which he originally agreed to participate.
Young MC, Morris Day, and Martina McBride have also left the Freedom 250 lineup. Additionally, Milli Vanilli was listed among the performers, a fact that surprised Jodie Rocco, a former member of the group, who expressed astonishment upon seeing the group’s name on the roster.
Trump declared that two years ago the United States was in crisis, but now it enjoys unprecedented vitality. He stated that he prefers to be surrounded by enthusiastic, intelligent, and successful individuals who know how to win. Accordingly, he has directed his representatives to evaluate the possibility of organizing an “America Is Back” rally in Washington, D.C., on a Wednesday at the same venue, inviting only dedicated patriots for a vibrant celebration of the nation.
Despite the withdrawals, Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida remain scheduled to perform in the Freedom 250 series, which runs from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The event is part of a public‑private partnership supported by the Trump administration.
