Before Ireland’s Six Nations victory over Scotland in March secured the Grand Slam, coach Andy Farrell expressed confidence that both James Lowe and Bundee Aki would extend their stays with the national team.

While Aki has committed to a one-year extension with Connacht, Lowe’s contract situation remains unresolved. The winger is tied to Leinster rather than holding a central IRFU contract, complicating ongoing negotiations.

Lowe missed the Champions Cup final defeat to Bordeaux due to injury, despite returning from a hamstring problem sustained during the England match in the Six Nations.

His brace of tries in recent matches demonstrates his continued threats when fit, though his availability for selection remains uncertain.

Although Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has yet to address Lowe’s long-term prospects, he praised the player’s impact since joining the setup nine years ago.

“He’s been a fantastic character within the group. Different, you know, what he brings is unique, exceptional energy,” Cullen remarked after the recent game.

“There’s been a lot of different aspects to his career that have been highlighted internally, particularly some of the remarkable performances he’s delivered in a Leinster jersey.”

“James Lowe isn’t a name you see around these days. He’s been a tremendous addition to our programme over the years.”
