English boxer Dalton Smith will become the inaugural recipient of a newly established WBC Legacy Belt commemorating the late Ricky Hatton.
Smith secured the super-lightweight title last January with a knockout win against Subriel Matias, continuing Britain’s legacy in the 140-pound division. Hatton, considered one of the greatest champions in boxing history, unified the weight class during his career, defeating notable opponents including Kostya Tszyu and José Luis Castillo.
“The Hitman,” who tragically passed away in 2024 at age 46, inspired generations worldwide. The Legacy Belt serves as a permanent tribute to his impact, with Smith expressing deep admiration for Hatton’s influence: “
Growing up, Ricky Hatton was my hero. His fighting style, charisma, and connection with audiences are what drew me to boxing. Receiving this inaugural belt at the evening of Every Ricky event in Manchester—his hometown—honors his legacy. Knowing it represents every fighter he inspired from the North of England and beyond puts immense pride in my heart. “[
The presentation ceremony will occur at Manchester’s AO Arena on June 7th as part of the evening dedicated to celebrating Hatton’s life and legacy. The event will feature multiple boxing legends and entertainment figures.
