Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich arrived in Washington on Saturday night to meet leaders from Latin American nations and broaden the Isaac Accords, a diplomatic‑economic initiative linking Israel with the region, Walla reported Sunday.
He is expected to return to Israel as early as Wednesday after an intensive series of meetings in the United States with key Latin American officials.
The accords currently involve Argentina, Uruguay, Panama and Costa Rica and are modeled after the Abraham Accords.
The partnership will emphasize the sale of Israeli defense systems and military technology, focusing on maritime security, police modernization and efforts to combat organized crime and narco‑terrorism.
The initiative was launched in November 2025 following a meeting in Buenos Aires between Argentine President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Milei described Argentina as a “pioneer” alongside the United States in advancing the framework, viewing it as a vehicle to deepen strategic cooperation with Israel.
Funding for the program draws on a $1 million Genesis Prize grant awarded to Milei in June of last year.
A new body under the Genesis Prize Foundation will manage budgets, investments and business relations among the United States, Israel and South American countries.
