In observance of Black Music Month, Tiny Desk honors BET’s indelible legacy.
Floetry journeyed from London’s SE5 district to Philadelphia’s western neighborhoods to present their signature vibe at the Tiny Desk. Featuring Natalie Stewart, known as The Floacist, and Marsha Ambrosius, aka The Songstress, whose ethereal soprano adds depth, the performance was flawlessly executed.
The pair, who have collaborated since youth, embody a lasting sisterhood that endures through life’s changes. Starting in London, they immersed themselves in Philadelphia’s vibrant music community and have since crafted a compelling catalog of soulful R&B recordings.
After a decade‑long hiatus, Floetry returned to the Tiny Desk stage for a special set. They opened with “Big Ben,” a nod to their British roots. Next, they performed “Butterflies,” a song co‑written by Ambrosius and Andre Harris and famously covered by Michael Jackson, whose soaring vocals made the piece unforgettable. In the middle of the set they followed with “Say Yes,” a sensual track that warmed the atmosphere, and “Getting Late,” another steamy, seductive number. Closing the performance, they debuted “Floetic,” their 2020 single that captured the energy of young R&B pioneers.
