Information Minister Ataullah Tarar on Thursday affirmed the government’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding the rights of religious minorities during a meeting with members of the Christian community, as reported by state broadcaster PTV.
Accompanied by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the information minister engaged with the Christian delegation to discuss the current state of minority rights and initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare and well-being of the Christian community.
According to PTV, the delegation expressed appreciation for the government’s persistent commitment to protecting minority rights, specifically welcoming the recent enactment of the Punjab government’s Child Marriage Restraint Act 2026.
The delegation also acknowledged the government’s efforts in promoting equal opportunities for religious minorities.
During the discussions, participants emphasized the urgent need to address the challenges faced by the Christian community through targeted legislation and policy reforms.
The meeting also reached a consensus on developing an effective system to resolve outstanding issues, including the Christian Personal Law.
Expressing strong views on the matter, the law minister highlighted the critical importance of advancing “comprehensive legal and policy reforms” through community consultation.
“The government is fully committed to providing equal rights and equal opportunities to all citizens,” the minister stated.
The information minister echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the government’s ongoing commitment to protecting minority rights.
“Engaging in consultations with minority community representatives ensures their needs are incorporated into legislative and policy decisions,” he stated.
He further assured the delegation of the government’s dedication to fostering “interfaith harmony, equal citizenship, and an inclusive society where every Pakistani can contribute to national development without facing discrimination.”
