This is the poignant account of a Russian father and daughter forced into exile for their opposition to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The ordeal began in March 2022, after 12-year-old Maria created an anti-war drawing at school following the outbreak of hostilities. Her actions were promptly reported, leading to investigations by the FSB at both her school and her family home. Her father was subsequently arrested for his vocal support of his daughter and his criticism of the conflict, ultimately being convicted of “discrediting the Russian army.” Following his release from a penal colony, the pair fled Russia and are currently seeking refuge in Strasbourg. A report by Elena Volochine, English adaptation by Lauren Bain.
