Italy Launches Investigation Into Ben-Gvir on Sumud Flotilla Handling
The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, alleging connections to the controversial May 2026 Global Sumud Flotilla matter. According to reports from the Italian press agency ANSA, videos circulating on social media have depicted the Israeli National Security Minister reportedly mistreating activists, including mocking Gaza-bound individuals while they were nonchalant.
These allegations are part of a broader probe into potential offenses such as kidnapping, torture, maritime law violations, and attempted murder related to the flotilla incident. Italy joins France, which is also initiating a preliminary investigation led by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) into similar charges.
Italian sources emphasize that any conduct during the interception of vessels at sea must be examined under standard protocols. Ben-Gvir has dismissed such claims, stating he is merely a minister reflecting his government’s broader political stance.
Leading Israeli media outlets include the Jerusalem Post, citing confirmed interviews with officials. These reports underscore the international attention surrounding the issue and the ongoing legal and ethical scrutiny faced by political figures involved.
