In a recent interview with Dexerto, Anna Faris disclosed that a satirical jab at Melania Trump was removed from the latest entry in the spoof franchise, “Scary Movie 6.” The film recently achieved box office success with a $54 million opening weekend. Faris explained that she had advocated for her character, Cindy, to embody a “classic MAGA” persona, describing her as the type of individual seen causing scenes in retail parking lots during the pandemic.
Faris detailed a specific scene that was ultimately deleted, in which her character, while intoxicated in a truck, looks into the rearview mirror and tells herself, “Be best, Cindy Campbell, be best”—a direct reference to Melania Trump’s “Be Best” campaign. “That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there,” Faris remarked.
Regarding the provocative nature of the franchise, Faris noted, “I’m in a movie that is truly the most offensive movie ever made, and I’m the lead of it. I participate in offensive ideas. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me.”
After sitting out the fifth installment, Faris returned for the new film alongside original cast members Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, and Shawn Wayans. The Wayans family originally developed the “Scary Movie” franchise but were famously removed from the series by Harvey and Bob Weinstein following a dispute over contract terms after “Scary Movie 2.”
Reflecting on that history, Marlon Wayans recently told Variety, “What they did is between them and God. I don’t applaud that type of behavior, but I can’t hold hate and hurt in my heart if I want to evolve.”
“Scary Movie” is currently in theaters nationwide.
