Keane andFernandes Clear the Air After Misquoted Remarks

Keane and United captain Bruno Fernandes have cleared the air following a misquoted statement, during which they held a constructive conversation.

Keane further suggested that Fernandes was focusing more on personal accolades than on collective achievement.

On the season’s final day, Fernandes set a Premier League record with 21 assists, delivering the decisive pass in a victory over Brighton.

During a May episode of The Overlap podcast, Keane criticized Fernandes’ approach, likening the situation to a circus.

He referenced an interview after a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest where Fernandes remarked that he might have passed instead of shooting.

Fernandes later dismissed the accusation, noting his exact post‑match comments: “There were moments when I should have passed rather than shot. I’m pleased with the assist, but my primary focus was the win and finishing the season strongly.”

Fernandes expressed a desire to meet Keane to discuss the matter, and Keane mentioned on the Wednesday edition of the Stick to Football podcast that they held a mature dialogue.

‘There was a reaction to our earlier podcast remarks, and he reached out for a conversation – I called him and we had a pleasant exchange,’ Keane added.

‘It’s natural for misunderstandings to arise after podcasts or matches; when someone feels upset, they may seek clarification. We held a constructive discussion,’ Keane explained.

‘While I prefer to maintain clear boundaries with players and avoid frequent interactions with them or their agents, I believe it was appropriate to engage when they reach out,’ Keane said.

‘Given the volume of speculation surrounding United, and my own background with the club, I valued the opportunity for an open dialogue. I hope Fernandes found it equally beneficial, and the conversation left me feeling more at ease,’ he concluded.
