Trump-Backed Air Force Veteran Secures Victory in Nevada Republican Primary
David Flippo, a Trump-supporting Air Force veteran, has been crowned the Republican House primary winner in Nevada’s rural Second Congressional District, following a decisive victory over a candidate backed by Governor Joe Lombardo and other state Republican leaders. The win highlights the strong endorsement from President Trump although his overall approval ratings remain low. Flippo outpaced James Settelmeyer, a fourth-generation rancher and former state senator, who earned backing from prominent Nevada Republicans including Lombardo and retiring congressman Mark Amodei. Lombardo secured his party’s nomination earlier in the season and exemplified his alignment with the president while maintaining a moderate stance. Flippo criticized Settelmeyer for lacking sufficient conservatism, garnerring support from right-wing groups such as Turning Point Action, Laura Loomer, and Greg Bovino. The district remains a crucial stronghold for Republican candidates in Nevada’s competitive political landscape, positioning Flippo favorably ahead of his contestant, Teresa Benitez-Thompson, the Democratic primary winner.
