Sebastien Desabre, head coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo national team, expressed his hope that the squad will deliver a strong performance after officially arriving in the United States on Thursday.
Desabre emphasized that the team’s presence on the world stage is intended to bring joy and pride to their compatriots during a challenging period for the nation.
The squad’s journey involved a flight from Paris, following a mandatory 21-day quarantine period imposed by US authorities before they were permitted to enter the country.
“We adapted to the situation,” Desabre stated. “We remained focused, as we have often had to adapt in the past. We worked hard, played two challenging friendlies, and now we have reached the next stage.”

The DR Congo national team has qualified for its first World Cup since the 1974 tournament, where they competed as Zaire. Due to a recent Ebola outbreak, the team was forced to cancel its planned domestic training camp and relocate their preparations to Belgium.
The 49-year-old Frenchman noted that the people of DR Congo have waited a long time for this moment. “It has been a while since the people have seen the team at the World Cup,” Desabre said. “Qualifying for the finals was an honor; now, our goal is to deliver a great performance in the tournament.”
The team will be based in Houston for the start of the competition, where they will open their Group K campaign against Portugal on June 17. Their subsequent schedule includes a match against Colombia in Guadalajara, Mexico, on June 23, followed by a final group game against Uzbekistan in Atlanta on June 28.
