One Nation has been compelled to relocate a scheduled fundraiser in Melbourne to an undisclosed site, as the original venue chose not to host the gathering amid concerns over planned protests.
A party spokesperson informed Guardian Australia on Friday that the event will be relocated from Giorgio Casa, a bistro in Moonee Ponds, following advice from Victoria Police expressing concerns about potential protest activity.
The One Nation spokesperson noted that the event had sold out but declined to disclose the anticipated attendance numbers.
A Victoria Police spokesperson stated that they were not aware of any specific threats targeting the event and emphasized that the venue’s decision to cancel was the determining factor.
Victoria Police confirmed awareness that the event would not take place at the Moonee Ponds location and indicated that they would maintain a presence in the area due to the potential for protest activity.
The Australian Federal Police directed inquiries from Guardian Australia regarding any investigations to state police authorities.
Several groups, including the Campaign Against Racism & Fascism, announced intentions to protest the event, urging Victorians to “stand up and fight back.”
The group stated, “We need to stand up and fight back; all anti‑racists and anti‑fascists are urged to join this demonstration next week.”
Moonee Ponds City Council also cautioned residents against attending the area, issuing a warning on social media on Friday.
The council noted that Victoria Police had advised of the planned protest and that officers would be present, and announced temporary road closures for up to four hours.
A separate One Nation gathering in Perth, attended by Hanson on Wednesday, was confronted by hundreds of demonstrators who reportedly shouted, “Pauline Hanson go to hell, take your racists there as well.”
