Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is reducing its headcount within its service and customer organization. A company spokesperson informed FOX Business that these layoffs impact less than 2% of Rivian’s workforce, which comprised approximately 15,200 employees at the end of 2025. Displaced employees may have the opportunity to apply for other available positions within the company.
“We recently restructured a handful of teams within Rivian as we work to profitably scale our business,” the spokesperson stated.

The layoffs took effect Tuesday and targeted Rivian’s service and customer division—responsible for sales and marketing—as the company restructures to ensure efficient growth during its new model rollout.
The Wall Street Journal originally reported on these layoffs.
Rivian has implemented several rounds of workforce reductions over the past year while preparing for the launch of the R2 SUV, a central component of the company’s future product strategy.

In October, the company eliminated over 600 positions, representing 4.5% of its workforce, following a decline in vehicle demand after EV tax credits expired.
The R2 officially debuted last week with a variant offering various optional add-ons, starting at approximately $58,000, though the automaker intends to release more affordable versions later.

The company expects that the introduction of lower-cost models will expand demand and improve the sales outlook as it pursues profitability.
Rivian has noted that it no longer expects to reach its 2027 adjusted core profit target, as it is increasing research and development spending to expedite its autonomous driving technology roadmap.
