While this news isn’t the highly anticipated update, it remains welcome.

Rockstar Games announced fresh Grand Theft Auto information, though it does not represent the highly anticipated update. Beginning June 18, owners of Grand Theft Auto V on PS4 or the digital Xbox One edition may upgrade at no cost to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version. The current‑generation release, launched in March 2022 as a paid upgrade, offers visual improvements and performance enhancements, including faster character switching among the three protagonists. Save data and online progress can be transferred with the upgrade.
GTA V players on PC can obtain a complimentary upgrade from the previous edition to the Enhanced edition, which was released last year. Rockstar notes that, in addition to the upgrades available on current‑generation consoles, the Enhanced edition adds PC‑only features such as ray‑traced ambient occlusion and global illumination.
Free upgrades are particularly valuable given the growing number of users who now own PS5 consoles, Xbox Series X/S systems, or more capable PCs than they did four years ago. Nevertheless, this development may signal Rockstar’s intention to eventually discontinue GTA Online on PS4 and Xbox One, as it previously did with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions in 2021.
Grand Theft Auto fans have been awaiting fresh details about Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar appears to adhere to the scheduled November 19 release date despite earlier postponements. Take‑Two Interactive announced that the game’s marketing campaign will intensify this summer, suggesting that the third trailer — its first in more than a year — may arrive soon.
