In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple’s outgoing CEO confirmed that higher prices are forthcoming for the company’s products. “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable,” Tim Cook told the publication. “We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.”
Cook did not specify the exact magnitude of the price changes or their timing. With WWDC 2026 concluded, Apple is poised to unveil its iPhone 18 lineup in the coming months, and those devices are expected to be priced higher than the previous generation. New laptops and tablets slated for release this year will likely see similar price increases. Moreover, the broader industry’s difficulty in securing components due to heightened AI‑driven demand suggests that Apple’s current product lineup may also be subject to price hikes.
Cook noted that constrained memory supply coincides with strong consumer demand, leading to substantial price increases from memory suppliers. He emphasized that normalizing memory pricing and availability is essential for consumer products.
The interview reflected Cook’s characteristic diplomatic tone. He chose to convey the pricing challenges himself, sparing his successor, John Ternus, from potential criticism. He also remarked on the unprecedented intensity of the RAM and storage markets, stating he had never witnessed such conditions in any sector over the past four decades.
Apple is not alone in confronting rising memory costs; Samsung, HP, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Valve have similarly announced the impact of soaring RAM prices and demand over recent months.
