Claiming the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club provides more than just the historic trophy. The champion walks away with a suite of exemptions and financial incentives designed to shape a career’s trajectory. Below are the key exemptions awarded to this year’s winner.
2026 U.S. Open Winner Exemptions
- A ten‑year exemption from the U.S. Open.
- Five‑year invitations to the Masters Tournament.
- Five‑year invitations to The Open Championship.
- Five‑year invitations to the PGA Championship.
- Five‑year invitations to the Players Championship.
- Five‑year exempt status on the PGA Tour.
The victor also receives 600 FedEx Cup points, virtually guaranteeing entry to the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
The 2026 field will boast a historic prize pool. After the 2025 champion JJ Spaun collected $4.3 million, the United States Golf Association has added $1 million to the purse. This raises the winner’s share to $4.5 million and lifts the total tournament prize pool to $22.5 million at Shinnecock Hills.
“We’re playing for a $22,500,000 purse, which means the winner will receive $4.5 million,” said USGA CEO Mike Whan on Wednesday. “We returned to this venue in 2026 with a purse that matches the Masters, and we’re proud to keep that pace.”
The $22.5 million total now aligns the U.S. Open with the Masters as golf’s largest combined prize fund. When asked about the significance of this parity, Whan reflected, “Part of it is personal pride—we want to be big and the best, ensuring the event is life‑changing. We’re not in a race; we’re simply proud of where we stand and believe a $22.5 million purse underscores the championship’s stature.”
