Wyndham Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, posted a six‑under‑par 66 to take the lead after the first round. Eight players share second place at two under: Sam Stevens, amateur Ryder Cowan, Max McGreevy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Dustin Johnson, Gary Woodland, Jon Rahm and Ben Kohles.
Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau sit at one under, while Scottie Scheffler posted a one‑over 71 and is tied for 48th. Last year’s champion J.J. Spaun struggled, carding a seven‑over round.
