TORONTO—The Chicago Wolves secured a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory over the Toronto Marlies in Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals on Thursday at the Coca-Cola Coliseum, evening the series at 2-2. The win ensures a pivotal Game 5 in Toronto on Friday night.
Viktor Neuchev’s decisive overtime goal proved pivotal, snapping the stalemate and sealing the triumph. Bradly Nadeau, Domenick Fensore, and Justin Robidas had already broken the deadlock in regulation, fueling a resilient comeback. Nadeau opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the game, converting a pinpoint pass from Juuso Valimaki at the bottom of the left circle. Valimaki earned his first assist of the series on the propitious play.
The Marlies retaliated midway through the period with a power-play goal by Jacob Quillan and a second tally by Luke Haymes, building a 2-1 advantage. Ryan Tverberg extended Toronto’s lead to 3-1 late in the second, but the Wolves refused to relent. Fensore and Robidas knotted the series’ pivotal third period almost consecutively, with Fensore’s fifth postseason goal—assisted by Ivan Ryabkin and Neurochev—tying the game at 3-3. Robidas’ seventh career playoff goal, a wraparound effort aided by Cal Foote and Ryan Suzuki, completed the comeback.
Neuchev then converted on a loose puck in front, his second goal of the series, assisted by Nikita Pavlychev to seal the dramatic victory.
Cayden Primeau posted a 33-save performance to claim the win, while Marlies netminder Artur Akhtyamov (22 saves) endured the defeat.
The series shifts back to Toronto for Game 5 on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Central. Should the Wolves prevail, the Stanley Cup Final Showdown would await in Edmonton, where the Oilers and Panthers clash.
