Tierra Whack proves she can dominate the rap arena. Known for her inventive visual style and vibrant art‑pop aesthetics, the Philadelphia artist often surprises listeners with her lyrical prowess. That surprise deepens with her newest project, Whack’s Museum. When she first mentioned the release a few weeks ago, Whack described it as a “rap mixtape,” and she delivers exactly that.
After redefining the format with the 15‑minute visual album Whack’s World in 2018 and expanding her sound on the 2024 major‑label debut World Wide Whack, Whack takes a different approach here. She introduced the mixtape with the Conductor Williams‑produced boom‑bap single “Wax Paper,” and that gritty, classic vibe runs throughout the record.
Conductor Williams handles much of the production on Whack’s Museum, providing a backdrop that lets Whack showcase her lyrical agility. The opening track “Whack Job” features a beat that twists like warped vinyl, and Whack rides it flawlessly. Every song leans into the traditional East Coast “neck‑snap” sound, a style she not only adapts to but seems to own. She adds occasional melodic touches, yet her focus remains on relentless rapping. This first listen left me highly impressed.
Whack’s Museum is now available on Interscope.
