Y Venkataram, a 15‑year‑old prodigy, posted an astounding 50‑run innings off just 11 balls for India A, shattering the fastest half‑century record in List A 50‑over cricket.

In the match against Sri Lanka A, the 15‑year‑old power‑hitter compiled 94 runs from 29 deliveries, helping India A post a total of 377 for 9 wickets while hitting ten fours and eight sixes.

He faced only a single dot ball en route to his fifty, smashing five fours and five sixes in the remaining ten deliveries to complete the landmark score.

The prior fastest half‑century in 50‑over cricket had been Thisara Perera’s 13‑ball innings for the Sri Lankan Army in 2021, while the quickest international effort was 16 balls, set by South Africa’s AB de Villiers and West Indies’ Matthew Forde.

Sooryavanshi’s explosive knock came on the same day he was omitted from India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against England.

He has been selected for India’s T20 side, set to face Ireland and England next month, where he could debut internationally after a meteoric rise that saw him become this year’s leading run‑scorer in the IPL.

Virat Kohli may rejoin the ODI side if he clears a fitness test following a hamstring injury, and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also included, while batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and all‑rounder Hardik Pandya have been left out.

The first T20 against Ireland is scheduled for 26 June, followed by a five‑match T20 series against England beginning on 1 July, and a three‑match ODI series starting on 14 July.
