Yashasvi Jaiswal was omitted from India’s squad for the upcoming three‑match ODI series in England, even though he posted an unbeaten 110 against Afghanistan on Saturday—a century that marked his second hundred in only his sixth ODI. The depth of talent in India’s white‑ball batting lineup prevented his selection.
Virat Kohli is back in the squad pending a fitness clearance; Jaiswal had been summoned for the Afghanistan ODIs as a substitute for Kohli, who was sidelined by a hamstring injury.
Kohli is expected to complete his fitness assessment at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru within the next week.
Ahead of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, India announced a full‑strength squad for the England series, welcoming back Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, absent from ODIs since the 2023 World Cup final due to workload management, is included, while Axar, who missed the previous three home series against South Africa, New Zealand and Afghanistan, also returns.
Bumrah replaces Prince Yadav in the pace attack, and Axar resumes his role as a direct swap for left‑arm spinner Harsh Dubey. Both Prince and Dubey made their ODI debuts in the Afghanistan match.
Hardik Pandya was also left out of the squad. The all‑rounder had initially been selected for the Afghanistan ODIs but was withdrawn following a leg strain sustained during training at the CoE.
The three ODIs on the England tour are slated for July 14 in Birmingham, July 16 in Cardiff, and July 19 at Lord’s.
