The iconic trio—Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup—are set to headline a new feature film by Warner Bros. Animation. The studio revealed the project during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, sparking excitement among long-time fans.
Sources close to the studio confirm the film is in development, though no formal agreement has yet been finalized. As such, details about the plot and release timeline remain undisclosed.
The movie will build on the legacy of the Cartoon Network series that premiered in 1998 and ran for six seasons until 2005. In that show, the sisters, hailing from the laboratory of Professor Utonium, fight crime and protect the city of Townsville with powers derived from a serendipitous mix of “sugar, spice, and everything nice” and the accidental addition of Chemical X. Their adventures have become a cultural touchstone for generations of viewers.
Warner Bros. previously released a 2002 theatrical adaptation, “The Powerpuff Girls Movie,” which underperformed at the box office. A 2016 reboot of the series and a planned live‑action film that never aired are part of the broader franchise history.
The upcoming project follows Warner Bros. Animation’s slate of theatrical releases, including the November film “The Cat in the Hat” starring Bill Hader and future titles such as “Bad Fairies,” “Margie Claus,” and “Oh the Places You’ll Go.”
