Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met with the Libyan armed forces’ deputy commander‑in‑chief on Wednesday, emphasizing the need to deepen defence ties, according to a statement from the military’s media affairs wing.
The meeting took place at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar received a guard of honour from a tri‑services contingent, the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.
During the talks, both sides discussed mutual interests, regional security dynamics, defence cooperation and ways to expand military‑to‑military collaboration.
“Both parties stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral defence ties and broadening cooperation in professional military training and security,” the statement said.
Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and constructive engagement with friendly nations.
The visiting dignitary praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and recognised their contributions to regional peace and security.
Field Marshal Munir previously met with the Libyan armed forces’ commander‑in‑chief and deputy commander‑in‑chief in February, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Libya.
In December, Pakistan signed a multi‑billion‑dollar agreement to supply conventional military equipment to the Libyan army, joining a select group of nations exporting such arms.
According to a copy of the deal seen by Reuters, the procurement includes several JF‑17 fighter jets, co‑developed by Pakistan and China, and a number of Super Mushak trainer aircraft for basic pilot training.
