An exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather has been anticipated for some time, and legendary heavyweight champion Larry Holmes has shared his perspective on the potential matchup.
In late 2025, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said he was planning an exhibition fight against Mayweather, with an April date slated for a bout in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
However, the scheduled event did not materialize, and the timing remains uncertain given Mayweather’s upcoming exhibition against Mike Zambidis set for Saturday night, followed by a professional comeback against former rival Manny Pacquiao in September.
Nevertheless, reports indicate that Mayweather has received a $2 million advance on a purse reportedly worth $14 million, leaving open the possibility that the fight could eventually take place.
Speaking with CanadaCasino, Holmes — who was famously knocked down by Tyson in 1988 — cautioned Mayweather to prepare for the authentic version of ‘Iron Mike’ that might appear.
“My advice to Floyd Mayweather is clear: be ready for Mike. Whether it’s a staged or a genuine contest, you need to be prepared because Mike is always serious about fighting.
“If Mike believes he can still compete, God bless him. But at my age I miss the sport enough to step back.”
Mayweather’s bout with Zambidis is currently under legal scrutiny, but if it proceeds, it would headline an 18‑fighter card scheduled for the Telekom Center in Athens, Greece this weekend.
