Georgia Voll has smoothly transitioned into the spotlight of Australian women’s cricket, capitalizing on the opportunity to step up following Alyssa Healy’s injury and eventual retirement.
When Healy suffered a knee injury during Australia’s home ODI series against India in late 2024, Voll made her debut as opener, scoring an unbeaten 46 and then registering a century in her second international match. Though there were quiet periods between these early performances and Healy’s March retirement, Voll was already established as the natural successor, capable of both opening the batting and serving as a backup wicketkeeper.
“Just being backed right from the start… knowing my role within this team,” Voll reflected. “I was in a little bit, out a little bit with Midge still going about her business and just being able to learn off her and the other senior players in the group.”
At the T20 World Cup, Voll continued her strong form with a 39 off 28 and an assured century partnership with Ellyse Perry against Pakistan at Headingley. Her performance came after a duck against South Africa, 45 not out versus Bangladesh, and 17 in the match against Netherlands, where she also filled in as wicketkeeper for an injured Beth Mooney.
“That’s my role at the top, to put pressure back on the bowlers and try and get our team off to a really good start,” Voll said. “With the depth of our team, I get that licence to go out there and see the ball and hit the ball.”

Voll’s adaptability extends beyond her batting. While stepping in as wicketkeeper for Mooney, she demonstrated versatility despite limited prior experience in the role. Her ability to handle multiple responsibilities has drawn praise from teammates like Perry, who described her transition as “seamless.”
“She looks so comfortable at this level,” Perry said. “She’s such a powerful player, particularly down the ground, but then off the back foot as well if you drop too short, so it’s really hard from a length perspective in the powerplay to bowl to her.”
Voll’s confident demeanor and calm presence at the crease have made her integration into the Australian team appear effortless. “Since I’ve come in, it was to go about it just how I wanted to go about it,” she said. “That is the aggressive approach, and that’s how Healy played the game as well. So to have it said you play like her is pretty cool, but I just want to make sure that I’m going about it how I want to go about it.”
