Jude Bellingham believes England can elevate their level of play as they enter the knockout stages of the World Cup following a series of inconsistent group stage performances.
The Three Lions secured a 2-0 victory in their final group match against Panama, though the result did not fully reflect the difficulty of the encounter. Despite Panama creating several significant opportunities and having a goal disallowed for offside, England managed to secure the win.
Reflecting on the team’s progress, Bellingham noted, “We achieved our first objective, which was to progress from the group and finish at the top.”
When questioned about whether the squad would find a higher gear in the knockout rounds, the midfielder responded, “We’ll see, hopefully. I think we have to strive to improve every single day and with every game; it is ultimately up to us to make that happen.”
Bellingham was the standout performer in the match, contributing both a goal and an assist. He scored from a corner before setting up Harry Kane with a clinical cross that resulted in a header.
When asked if the assist was more rewarding than his goal, the 22-year-old said: “The assist was the result of great team play. We have to give credit to Harry, who continues to raise his level. He is incredible.”
