Radha Yadav has rejoined India’s T20I squad after a nearly 11-month absence, aiming to contribute to the Women in Blue’s pursuit of their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title in England and Wales. She discussed her return, the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL), and insights from senior players Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana during an interview on JioStar.
Yadav attributed her enhanced performance to the break, stating that the time away allowed her to sharpen her batting power, death-over scoring, pace variations, and bowling techniques. The WPL, she emphasized, provided critical exposure to high-level competition, refining her skills before reintegration into international cricket.
Yadav praised the supportive environment created by the India team staff, noting that coaches granted her autonomy in refining her game. This backing, she said, has made “a huge difference” as she readapts to international play.
Refining Spinners: Learning from the Game
Yadav acknowledged the ongoing learning process for spinners, stating that she draws insights from teammates, coaches, and opponents. She emphasized that observation—whether of bowling techniques, field settings, or pressure management—plays a vital role in refining her approach.
For Yadav, spin bowling success hinges on taking wickets, maintaining control, and adhering to her strengths. She stressed the importance of exploiting variations and focusing on accurate deliveries to keep run rates in check, a recurring theme in team discussions.
WPL’s Role in Bridging Domestic and International Cricket
Yadav highlighted the WPL’s impact in narrowing the gap between domestic and international standards. She noted that players now gain competitive experience through the league before joining the national setup, a shift from earlier direct transitions from domestic cricket to internationals without an intermediate phase.
She also commended Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana for their mentorship, crediting their guidance in high-pressure moments, support for younger players, and efforts to ensure every team member feels included and empowered to showcase their skills.
