BOSTON — After experimenting with rookie Mickey Gasper at the top of the lineup, the Red Sox have decided to send him back to Triple‑A. The move comes as Boston activated shortstop Romy González from the injured list for his season debut against the Yankees.
González is slated to start Sunday night opposite left‑hander Carlos Rodón. To clear a spot on the 40‑man roster for González, Boston transferred infielder Roman Anthony to the 60‑day injured list, a procedural move that does not affect his recovery timeline.
Gasper, who was promoted from the Worcester Red Sox in early May, appeared in 34 games, starting 27. He opened with a .328 average and a .789 OPS in his first 19 games, but his production has waned dramatically. Over his last 15 games, he has batted .143 with two doubles, six strikeouts, and a .406 OPS.
